The post below is from an email provided by Steve Sullivan.  Steve did some checking for the board on how we might install speed bumps in the neighborhood.  A special thanks to Steve for helping out with this.  Here is the text from his email:

I spoke with someone at the Gwinnett County D.O.T. today and would like to share with you what I found out.

First, we discussed a speed survey that would have to be preformed before we can do anything. This envolves laying out speed strips on Bramlett Blvd. and Marta Crane Dr. These are the rubber cord like strips you often see in roadways. After this is done then an evaluation will be made by GDOT to see if we even qualify to have these speed bumps installed. If we do qualify, and the BSHOA board wants to further pursue this, then a letter and petition can be sent to each homeowner explaining the findings of the BSHOA and their recommendations. For it to pass and have the speed bumps installed would require an approval of at least 70% of the home owners surveyed. If a home is jointly owned each home owner would have to sign. If a home is currently rented, renters are not allowed to sign.
The cost to the propery owner is a meager $12.00 per year which covers maintenance and/or replacement. This $12.00 cost will be added to their annual propery tax bill.

I gave the DOT the ok today to go ahead with the speed survey.
The speed strips should be installed sometime this week, He will then email me the results within the next 3-4 weeks or sooner.
This is what they will be looking at. If the 85th percintile is at lease 11mph over the posted 25 mph limit then the petition would require 70%. If the 85th percentile is from 5 mph to 10 mph over posted speed, the 90% would be required to sign. If the 85th percintile is under 30mph then speed bumps would not be recommended as they are designed to slow traffic to 28 to 30 mph.

Item two, we discussed the addition of three way stop signs at each culdesac running off of Bramlett Blvd. and Marta Crane Dr. This did not meet with much enthusiasm. Mr. Hodges said that with people conditioned to not have to stop on Bramlett Blvd. or Marta Crane Dr. that this could present more of a hazard than a cure. If car 1 pulls out of one of the culdesacs expecting car 2 to stop and they don’t then this has created a possible accident situation. He made it sound like this would be a very hard project to get passed but I don’t think it would be impossible.

We are not allowed to install any signs ourselves if they fall within the Gwinnett County right of way, which I believe is 25 feet of the center of the street.

Item three, can we have our speed limit signs reduced from 25 MPH to 15 MPH. The answer was no. 25 MPH is the minimum allowed by the county/state for subdivisions.

Item four, can we pay for any of these items and install them ourselves. The answer was no if they were to be installed on county property. If we wanted to put up our own speed limit signs, then they would have to be installed on private (homeowners) property which would have to be further than the 25 feet right of center. At that point no one would even see the sign.

The speed bumps look to be the best and possibly only solution to the speeding problem.
