The HOA needs the help of a plumber.
The HOA received a notice from Gwinnett County stating that as a commercial account we must install a backflow prevention device to the water meter at the pool. What is backflow prevention you ask? Backflow Prevention provides protection of the drinking water system from contaminates and pollutants that can come from cross connections and changes in the hydraulic conditions within the system. The devices are mandated by the EPA. The county just adopted a new system/process for notifying commercial accounts. Somehow our account slipped through the cracks for the past 12 years as a commercial account. As a result of the new system/process, we are now required to get this done. I met with someone today from the Gwinnett County backflow department and he told me that the estimated cost to get the device installed and tested is around $300-500.
If we don’t install the prevention device and have it tested by a certified representative, Gwinnett County will shut off water service to the pool. To get the device installed, a plumber will need to dig up the area around the water meter, cut the pipe and install the device.
If we have a plumber in the neighborhood, we could use some help. If not, I plan to contact one of the certified companies listed on the county website for the backflow division. We need to get this done in the next 30 days or they may disconnect service and we would have to pay a reconnect fee.
